Vintage Hot Air Balloons

A friend of mine from back in my college days contacted me a few weeks ago and asked if I would do some cookies for her daughter's first birthday. She is planning the party with a hot air balloon theme, as the baby's first year has "flown by." How cute is that? I designed the cookies to match the birthday invitation, which had a vintage feel about it.

VW Bus Cake

In my family we usually get together at the end of the month for dinner. If there were any birthdays during the month we have cake & ice cream and celebrate them all at once. This past month, we had 5 birthdays. My husband's was among them, so I made the cake for tonight's dinner for him. 

He loves VW busses. He even owned one when we got married. It was sitting with it's engine in a box, where the seats should be, in his parents driveway. He no longer owns it, but the affinity is still there. So, this one is for you Love!

 Yes, I know it isn't perfect. I call it my "droopy bus." But aren't all VW busses a little run down?

Vintage Vehicle Birthday Cake

I made a cake for my Uncle John's birthday this past Saturday. He is really in to trucks, so I made him a cake with some vintage vehicles on it. It was my first time doing fondant cut outs, but I think they turned out good.

You can't really tell from the photos, but the bumpers were painted with edible silver paint. The cake was chocolate with chocolate buttercream icing. Yum-o! Here's the birthday boy, ready to dig in:
