50th Birthday Cake

My friend Amy's mom just turned 50 a couple of weeks ago. Amy asked me to make the cake for her surprise party. So, here it is:

The images around the edges were The Manti Temple, a camp trailer, the Survivor logo, 4-wheeler, family and campfire.

The cake was white cake on the bottom with buttercream filling and chocolate on the top with chocolate buttercream filling. It is iced with buttercream frosting. The details are done freehand in royal icing.

Cream-Filled Chocolate Cupcakes

I made these cupcakes last night as a special treat for my family. They are supposed to be like Hostess cupcakes - cream filling and all. 

They were pretty good, but I think I still need to work on the recipe. They stuck like crazy to the cupcake wrappers and I don't think I whipped the filling long enough. That didn't stop my boys from devouring them though. They really liked them!

Birthday Carrot Cake

The second cake I made this past weekend was for a family birthday. It was a super yummy carrot cake with cream cheese frosting:

Lesson learned? Cream cheese frosting isn't the best for decorating. But it sure tastes great!
