Delicate Arch cake

This past week was my Uncle Jim's birthday. We are celebrating tomorrow, and I got to make his cake again. He is a big fan of Southern Utah, so I made him a cake with the Delicate Arch on it. The design came from the Utah centenary stamp that was released a few years back.
Jim loves my carrot cake, so it is a carrot cake finished in cream cheese frosting.
Happy Birthday Uncle Jim!

Great Outdoors 80th Birthday cake

A friend in the neighborhood asked me to make a cake for her dad's 80th birthday tomorrow. Her only instruction was for it to be "outdoorsy." I thought on it long & hard, but most of the designs I came up with seemed too juvenile for a man celebrating his 80th birthday. Then, I had a brainstorm. I would paint the cake with outdoor scenes. The only other time I've painted with food coloring was the Westie cake and that was pretty simple. This time it was more of a watercolor type painting. I think it turned out good, though food coloring is a bit different to paint with than water colors!

Duck Hunter Cake

I made this cake for my Uncle Jim, who is a small bird hunter. Come to find out, the cake was especially meaningful for him because he was born on November 5, so his dad could go duck hunting on November 6.

Happy Birthday Jim!
