Valentine's Day 2012

I have been busy around here making Valentine's Day treats!
First, I had an order from a friend for two dozen lacy heart cookies. I ended up having 9 different patterns, each in two color combinations. I used the recent tutorial from Sugarbelle on piping lace onto cookies.

Next, I made robot cookie hearts for my boy's school classes. Again, I used Sugarbelle for the idea. I just love her! The boys were very pleased with their cookies.

And last, but not least, my boys and I made bug Valentines for their classes too. Totally not edible though! The printable for the jars can be found here.

Hello Kitty cookies

A friend of mine asked me recently if I could do "Hello Kitty" cookies for her little girl's birthday. I jump at any chance to do girly cookies, so I agreed. I have had the Hello Kitty cookie cutters for a while now. If you all remember, I made Halloween cookies with them back in October. These were just your basic Hello Kitty heads.

I did make a few extra and had some fun with them. This is Hello Kitty's cousin - Hipster Kitty!

Happy Birthday MJ!

Mickey Mouse Birthday

My third little boy, Evan, turned four a couple of weeks ago. For the longest time all I could get out of him when I asked what kind of cake he wanted was "A circle cake." He finally agreed to a Mickey Mouse party when I suggested that. (At our house, they get their first "friends" party when they turn four.)
I usually make cookies for the to take to their school classes, but he isn't in school yet, so I made them for his church class.

We had his family party on the actual big day. I made him a simple mickey-shaped cake, and he was thrilled. Three circles is better than one, right?!

The next week we had his friends party and I made cupcakes with mickey silhouettes on them. I briefly thought about doing black frosting, but decided against it. Because it was a party for pre-schoolers, after all!

Happy Birthday Grizz! I love you!

Gingerbread Galore!

I made roughly 27 dozen gingerbread men this weekend. They were only 2" tall, but still - 27 DOZEN. They didn't get decorated like the first batches I did. They didn't even get their pictures taken in their state of nakedness. I do have a photo of the last batches I made:
They got all fancied up.

I wasn't sure if I'd have the motivation to make cookies for my boys' school classes after all that, but I somehow found some. I made 5 dozen of these:

Which turned into these:
Aren't they fun? My five-year old thought they were silly. I hope his classmates enjoy them!

Baseball Birthday cookies

A good friend of mine had a birthday yesterday. She has two boys herself, and her family is BIG into baseball. So, for her birthday, I made her some baseball cookies.

Happy Birthday Karen!

Halloween cookies are done!

I can't do math in my head. If I could, I may have said "no" to one or two orders of Halloween cookies. I had five customers who wanted cookies. In my head that equaled 5 dozen cookies - no prob. In actuality, when I went through the orders in my head, four of those five people wanted two dozen cookies. That equals nine dozen. Oops. Good thing I realized that before making the cookies. But really, who could I have said no to? Four dozen go to my boys' school classes, two dozen are for my Mom's work, two dozen are for my cousin's work and one dozen is for a neighbor. I started the cookies on Monday and finished them today. Not bad, time-wise. And I didn't have to spend 12 hours a day making them either. (So glad I didn't do the Dia de los Muertos cookies for the boys' classes!)
I made some minor changes to a couple of the designs, and added a fifth character to the lineup. I still like the skeleton best.
This is what eleven and a half dozen cookies looks like:

Yes, you read that right. Eleven and a half dozen. I ended up making some for my hubby's work too. Ain't he lucky?

Square Pumpkin, and others...

I thought I was done with Halloween cookies, but then I found these cute napkins at Hobby Lobby and just had to make cookies out of them.

I need to get some better icing tips for the details, really. But I think they are cute!

More Halloween Cookies

I made some cookies this week just for my kids. I wanted to try out some new Halloween designs, and our cookie jar only had two half-decorated cookies in it. Two - that isn't even enough for one each. So sad. So, here you go, some new Halloween designs.
These are all made with my skull cookie cutter.

The skeleton idea is all over the web, but I thought I'd give it a shot. The mummy was inspired by another cookier, but I can't remember where I found them!

School Fundraiser cookies

My boys' school is having a safety fair and fundraiser tomorrow night. My cookies sold really well last year, so I volunteered to make more for the bake sale this year. I ended up making 4 dozen cookies.

Inspiration came from the following:

University of Utah cookies

I bought this drum and feather cutter over a year ago.
I have meant to use it for the past year.
I finally got around to it this week.

We are big University of Utah fans at our house. Even our little boys are die hard fans. I had some left over cookie dough from the Batman cookie order, so I made up some Utah football cookies. I think we'll take some to the game with us tomorrow. My oldest thinks they're "Awesome!"
GO UTES!

Soccer cake & cookies

I had a request a few weeks ago for a Real Salt Lake cake with coordinating soccer ball cookies. The order was picked up last week, but I'm just now getting around to posting it.
Here is the cake:
The cake was a vanilla cake with banana cream filling (with real bananas). The finish was buttercream frosting and fondant.

Here are the cookies:

I used a different soccer ball pattern than last time and I think I like this one better.

Summer cookies, take 2

My husbands family had a reunion this past weekend and I decided to take some summer cookies. These are the first I've done since Jared was born. I got my inspiration from the "Summertime Fun - Backyard Play" digital scrapbook kit by Jady Day Studio.

They were all gobbled up and I received many compliments on how cute & tasty they were. We also took a set over to our neighbor for her birthday!

Jungle Animals

I have a big order coming up at the end of July which includes 3 dozen jungle animal cookies. I figured I'd better try some out before then.

These need some tweaking also, but they're a good start.

Easter Cookies

My son's school is having spirit week this week. As a fundraiser they are having a bake sale during the family movie and faculty/student basketball game. I thought I would make some cookies to donate to the bake sale. I also thought I had until Thursday. He came home yesterday and reminded me that the movie is actually tonight. I blame pregnancy brain! Luckily I already had the cookies baked, so I just had to ice them. I wanted to try a new technique on the eggs, but that will have to wait until next time! I did sugar the bunnies tails though, so they look fluffy!

T-Rex Cookies

Another mom in my sons' preschool class ordered T-Rex cookies for one of her sons' birthday, as a take-to-school treat. She is another one of those moms who specializes in boys (she's got 5!), so I was happy to oblige.

Happy Birthday Phillip!

Christmas Ornament Cookies

I had a bit of time this week, so I thought I would make some Christmas cookies before the actual day. I ordered this set of ornament cutters a few weeks ago and have been dying to try them out!

Happy Birthday Chad!

Monster Cookies

I did these cookies for my son's Halloween party at school. I saw them here first. They are based off some Halloween gear from Target.

Red, White & Blue

I have been busy at work this week with cookies, cupcakes and a mini wedding cake! I totally forgot to take a photo of the cupcakes I made for a BBQ last night - they are white cake with a red, white & blue buttercream frosting and edible silver beads on top. They were gone in a flash!
I do have a photo of some other patriotic cupcakes I made a couple of weeks ago. These were red, white & blue cake with white buttercream & patriotic sprinkles.

As far as cookies go, for this week I made the Buzz Lightyear cookies, posted here and these fish cookies for my mom.
I also did an order of 2 1/2 dozen American flags.

They were half vanilla sugar cookies and half chocolate sugar cookies. I painted the flag poles with edible silver paint. They look so cute!
I also did a mini wedding cake for our neighbor's son who is getting married today. It is just 4" across, white cake with red icing and black sprinkles. They were serving cupcakes instead of cake, and this little cake was for them to put their toppers on and to cut. Again,  I forgot to take a photo (where is my head these days?). Thanks to the mother of the groom for sending me one!

Lesson learned: Sprinkles stick better to freshly piped icing. So don't ice the whole 3 dozen, then apply the sprinkles. They'll just bounce off.

Teacher "Thank You" cookies

Today was the last day of preschool for my 4-year old. We went to class and watched a slideshow of photos from the year, had treats & they got their little end-of-the-year packets from their teachers. I wanted to give his teachers a little somethings, so I made them some cookies. Treats are always good, right? Especially if you teach 3- and 4-year olds!
