My Little Pony, 2.0

I had My Little Ponies as a kid. They have a newer version now, but seeing as I've been blessed with four boys we don't see many of them around this house. I was asked to make some cookies with three specific ponies a few weeks ago. It was fun!

Tangled

A co-worker of my husband's asked me to do their little girl's birthday cake again this year. Last year I made her a giraffe smash cake for her first birthday. This year, it was a Tangled cake.

The cake was chocolate with a buttercream filling. It is finished entirely in buttercream icing. I used a technique called a buttercream transfer for Rapunzel.

Happy Birthday Brynnlee!

Phineas & Ferb cake

My oldest turned eight a week ago. His favorite TV show is Phineas & Ferb, so I threw him a P&F party two weeks ago and made him a P&F cake for last weekend. He loved it!

Chocolate cake with buttercream filling. The topper is a toy.
Happy Birthday Dan!

More Cupcakes

I have had a few occasions that required cupcakes in the past month. First was my birthday. I refuse to make my own cake, but I did make Rolo cupcakes, and planned a potluck BBQ with family to celebrate. These were the cupcakes:
Believe you me, they were tasty.

Second, was my aunt's fourth of July/20th Anniversary party. I made 4 dozen cupcakes (and a red velvet cake) for the occasion. Half of the cupcakes were cookies and cream, and half were orange creamsicle:
They were all gone before I got one.

Lastly, was my son's birthday party this past weekend. It was a "Phineas and Ferb"-themed party, so I made Perry the Platypus cupcakes.

They were a hit!

Super Heroes

Because both my Dad and my Father-in-Law are "Super", I made them super hero cookies for Father's Day. They both thought they were great! It's a good thing... I didn't start them until around 3pm on Saturday afternoon and was up until 1am finishing them! They aren't perfect, but as long as the Dads liked them, we're good!

Two 1st Birthday Cakes

Last week I had orders for three cakes. The first two were for a friend's daughter's first birthday. She last ordered the Angry Birds cake for her husband's birthday. For CC she wanted polka dotted cakes. Easy enough! I made her a 10" red cake with black polka dots (chocolate cake with buttercream filling) and a 6" "smash" cake that was white with red polka dots (white cake with buttercream filling). I also made fondant toppers of a "1" and "CC" for the tops of the cakes.

Next I made an Elmo cake for a neighbor's grand-daughter's first birthday. Her little brother was born the day before! Luckily they had the party before that. This cake was also chocolate with a buttercream filling.

Happy birthday CC and Paisley!

Cat in the Hat cake

My baby turn one year old tomorrow. I swear he was just born! We are having a party for him today with our family, and I made him a Cat in the Hat cake for his party.

It is a chocolate cake with raspberry filling, finished with buttercream icing and a chocolate transfer.
Happy Birthday Jer-Jer!

Woody Cookies

I got myself into a bit a of a bind this past week. My second son is turning 6 this week and we had his family party yesterday (Sunday). I normally do the "big" cake for that and serve cupcakes at his friends party. I also had a big cookie order due that I had to mail out today (Monday). I started the cookies early enough, and then I got the flu, and then I got a migraine. I ended up finishing the cookies mid-migraine (thanks to Excedrin Migraine.) The cake was about the most boring cake ever, so I'm not even going to post it here. Don't even ask. But, here are the cookies - I made a new cutter for them and now Buzz has a buddy! Heeere's Woody!

I put a photo of the cutter up on my Facebook page to let people guess what it was. I got some pretty entertaining answers, so I thought I'd share them here! Here's the cutter:
The responses I got were: a Scottie dog, some kind of person, a dachshund, "the guy who is all tied up in 'The Prince Of Egypt'", a praying angel or a dinosaur.

More "My Little Pony"

remember the "My Little Pony" sample cookies I made about a month and a half ago? I did the actual order this week and I think they turned out even better than the samples.

I added the yellow/green color combo to this batch for a little more variety. I also added a custom color combo by request. It was the customer's daughter's favorite pony - Rainbow Dash. I also added the heart detail to the front foot of all the ponies. 35 ponies in all! Whew!

My Little Pony Cookies

One sad thing about having three (soon to be 4) little boys? I don't get to make fun, girly cookies! I was more than excited when an Etsy customer recently asked me to do My Little Pony cookies. They brought me back to the ones I had as a child. So much fun!

TMNT Cake

I remember watching the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles growing up. I liked it too. So, at least I had some images in mind when Christy asked me to do a TMNT birthday cake for her little boy Lincoln.
There are a few examples of this cake floating around the web. I thought it was awesome, so I copied it, with a few changes. I was a little apprehensive about the project, but I think it turned out well.

The manhole cover is based on a NYC sewer one, and it definitely took some time. I dusted the black fondant with some edible metallic dust to make it look worn.

I learned a few things, since this was my first fondant-covered sculpted cake. One, make sure you have enough fondant before you start. Two, think things through before you cover everything in fondant. I had to do some "brain surgery" on this guy because I forgot to cut the back of his head at a slant so the cover would sit right. All in all, It was a success. Happy Birthday Lincoln!
