My Little Pony, 2.0

I had My Little Ponies as a kid. They have a newer version now, but seeing as I've been blessed with four boys we don't see many of them around this house. I was asked to make some cookies with three specific ponies a few weeks ago. It was fun!

Super Heroes

Because both my Dad and my Father-in-Law are "Super", I made them super hero cookies for Father's Day. They both thought they were great! It's a good thing... I didn't start them until around 3pm on Saturday afternoon and was up until 1am finishing them! They aren't perfect, but as long as the Dads liked them, we're good!

Tiki Cookies

I have been doing so many cakes lately, I felt like I needed a cookie fix. So, I decided to make some fun new summer cookies. The first batch are these Tiki statues. Aren't they fun?

I used the "Kona Coast" digital scrapbook kit by Julie Billingsley as inspiration.

Woody Cookies

I got myself into a bit a of a bind this past week. My second son is turning 6 this week and we had his family party yesterday (Sunday). I normally do the "big" cake for that and serve cupcakes at his friends party. I also had a big cookie order due that I had to mail out today (Monday). I started the cookies early enough, and then I got the flu, and then I got a migraine. I ended up finishing the cookies mid-migraine (thanks to Excedrin Migraine.) The cake was about the most boring cake ever, so I'm not even going to post it here. Don't even ask. But, here are the cookies - I made a new cutter for them and now Buzz has a buddy! Heeere's Woody!

I put a photo of the cutter up on my Facebook page to let people guess what it was. I got some pretty entertaining answers, so I thought I'd share them here! Here's the cutter:
The responses I got were: a Scottie dog, some kind of person, a dachshund, "the guy who is all tied up in 'The Prince Of Egypt'", a praying angel or a dinosaur.

Belle and Buzz

I received an Etsy order last week for a split dozen Disney princess and Buzz Lightyear cookies. I have done Buzz before, but not and princesses. The Mom gave me a list of princesses and I chose to do Belle. I worked out a design and went to work. I had a tough time with her face. Characters are so hard to get right! I hope she is close enough for the birthday girl!

Vintage Hot Air Balloons

A friend of mine from back in my college days contacted me a few weeks ago and asked if I would do some cookies for her daughter's first birthday. She is planning the party with a hot air balloon theme, as the baby's first year has "flown by." How cute is that? I designed the cookies to match the birthday invitation, which had a vintage feel about it.

Happy Birthday Reese!

Cars 2, two

See? I told you there was a fourth car to the Cars 2 series. I got photos immediately after the cookies were done this time (lesson learned). Introducing... Francesco Bernoulli.

And, all together... the Cars 2 gang.

Cars 2 cookies

I bought these Cars 2 cookie cutters a few months back. I finally got around to using them this week. I'll admit it, I was a little overwhelmed at the detail the cookies require. Character cookies can go so wrong so easily. You have to get certain parts just right or they won't look like the intended character. I'm not saying mine turned out perfectly, but they did turn out a lot better than I feared they might.

There were actually 4 cars in this series. I had all 4 cut out and iced - a dozen of each one. I sent the majority to school with my seven-year old for his "All About Me" day today and the rest were sitting out of reach on my entertainment center, waiting for their turn to get photographed. At least, I thought they were out of reach. I went in to the family room this afternoon to check on my boys, and they had eaten every last "Francesco Bernouli" cookie. While watching Cars 2, ironically. They are little stinkers they are. So, I have no pictures of Francesco. Maybe next time.

Dia de los Muertos

I have been seeing sugar skulls and cookies all over the web as Halloween approaches. I have wanted to try making some, so I did today. I based my design off an amazing needlework pattern I found here. Mine is a simplified version, of course, but still a lot of detail!

Jungle Animal Cookies & Panda Cake

Our downstairs neighbors have the most darling little girl. She turned one a couple of weeks ago and I got to make the cookies and cake for her birthday bash!
These are the cookies, made to match the party decor:

This is her cake:

They love pandas. I loved being able to use my new pillow cake pans and the 3D teddy bear pan I was given almost a year ago! The panda bear was chocolate cake with a buttercream finish. The pillow was chocolate/vanilla marble cake with buttercream filling and a fondant finish.

Happy Birthday Kaia!

Summer Cookie Collection

I've finally accomplished making cookies with 4 boys. I love summer with 4 boys 7 & under at home (I'll just keep telling myself that.) I got the itch to make cookies this week and decided to try out a few new designs before business gets busy.

For this Summer Collection I used three cookie cutters I already had, and I made a new one:

I like how these turned out, though as always they could use some tweaking. That is what the practice cookies are for. My boys don't mind eating the practice cookies (neither do I).

Stay tuned for another new collection coming soon.

Gamer Cookies

My very first cookie customer (remember these?) contacted me a few weeks ago about making cookies for her son's birthday. He is a big video gamer, so I was charged with the task of making cookies from 4 of his favorite video games. Can you guess them all?
Pokemon, Halo, & Assassins Creed.

Castle Crashers.

Happy birthday Dax!

More "My Little Pony"

remember the "My Little Pony" sample cookies I made about a month and a half ago? I did the actual order this week and I think they turned out even better than the samples.

I added the yellow/green color combo to this batch for a little more variety. I also added a custom color combo by request. It was the customer's daughter's favorite pony - Rainbow Dash. I also added the heart detail to the front foot of all the ponies. 35 ponies in all! Whew!

Super Mario Brothers cookies

Growing up I always felt cheated because I never got to bring birthday treats to school. My birthday is in the summer, so I always missed out on that. My oldest has the same issue, but he would not be deterred. He insisted on bringing treats to his class for his half-birthday, which was yesterday. So, I told him I'd make him Super Mario cookies.
I have been wanting to try this new decorating technique out, so I did. It is royal icing transfers. Now, they aren't that different from the chocolate transfers I do for cakes, but they are much more fragile. I did it though, and am I glad I did. I don't think I will be doing them very often though, so don't look for these cookies to be popping up in the store any time soon.
So, here is a photo of all the transfers, finished and waiting to be put on to the cookies:

And, a close up of each:

And, the finished product:

I did learn a few things about royal icing transfers:
One, don't bother piping in the details in black before you flood the color in, because you'll have to redo them once they dry.
Two, don't stack the cookie sheets to dry after you apply the transfers to the cookies. They need their own air space, or they start bleeding & look like a mess really.
Three, always make extras because some will break. (Luckily I did so it wasn't a big deal.)

My Little Pony Cookies

One sad thing about having three (soon to be 4) little boys? I don't get to make fun, girly cookies! I was more than excited when an Etsy customer recently asked me to do My Little Pony cookies. They brought me back to the ones I had as a child. So much fun!

Halloween Cookies

My oldest son's school is having a pre-Halloween Safety Fair tomorrow night.  I was asked to do some cookie plates as door prizes, and I volunteered to make some extras for the bake sale fundraiser that is happening the same night.
I made Star Wars cookies for door prizes. Two lucky winners will get a dozen each! I have improved them since I last posted these.  All things get better with time. Practice makes perfect!

For the bake sale I made a dozen of these little monster cookies. I still need to work out some things with them, but I'll get another go at them next week.

The images are inspired by the fabulous "Halloween Time" digital scrapbooking kit by Yari at Jady Day Studio (used with permission).

I also made a few of these black and white cookies for the bake sale.

I think my favorites are the spider and the "Jack Skellington" face.

Buzz, babies and dinos!

I have been super busy with cookies this past week!
First, I had an order for 2 dozen blue baby onesies. I forgot to take a photo (again). They were pretty simple though - blue onesies with white writing. Try and picture it.
Second, I made a dozen Buzz Lightyear cookies for a customer in New Jersey. She requested the number "5" be written on his chest shield, and I added a couple more details to these guys, compared to my sample cookie here.

The next order was 2 dozen stegosaurus cookies.  I added the number "3" to them, per customer request. These were tied with orange ribbon & were so cute!

Lastly, I had an order for 4 dozen baby onesie cookies from New York City. She is having a shower for twins and requested white onesies with light green piping. They will be tied with light green ribbon as well.

Phew! I'm glad all that is done! I won't book my schedule that full again. Next up: Baby Shower goodies for a friend!

Buzz Lightyear Cookies

I made an Etsy customer request Buzz Lightyear cookies. I have been meaning to work one up, so I did! I made my own cookie cutter again. Here is the handsome guy:

I know, his face isn't 100% right, is it? That's the smallest tip I've got though! The food color markers just didn't look right. **sigh** Oh well, I'm sure he will improve with practice. I think next I will work up a Woody cookie.
These can be purchased here.
